The TEFANZ Conference and Annual General Meeting 2016 will be held at the University of Otago College of Education, Dunedin Campus on Thursday 30 June and Friday 1 July 2016.
The conference theme, How Best to Educate a Nation’s Teachers? Debating Quality Teacher Education for Today and the Future will focus thinking and debate on current and future directions for teacher education in Aotearoa New Zealand. Participants’ presentations and key questions may consider issues of ‘models of teacher education’, ‘institutions of teacher education’, ‘curriculum innovation for teacher learning’, ‘professional development and learning of teachers’, ‘qualifications, PLD and work of school or early childhood centre based teacher educators’, ‘teacher educators’ work and research’ or related topics.
Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas, present their research findings, and discuss professional issues relevant to teacher education for the early childhood, primary, and/or secondary sectors.
The Organising Committee, together with the TEFANZ Executive, invite submission of abstracts (for oral or poster presentations), in accordance with the instructions below.
Session proposals and abstracts will be accepted before 5.00pm, Friday 26 February 2016. A maximum of two proposals for any single author will be considered.
Oral Presentations
A 45 minute oral presentation of a study or piece of scholarship by a single researcher or research team, related to the conference theme (single paper). Or, a 90 minute self organised symposium comprised of several papers from a single project or papers from several related projects or on a key question or topic related to the conference theme. Round table discussion (45 mins) on an in-progress study or key question related to the conference theme.
Poster Presentations or Chaired Poster Symposium
A1 sized, poster representation of a completed research project, to be presented within a scheduled 45 poster presentation session. Or, an independently chaired poster session (90 mins) where several related posters from a larger study or related to a key question or topic related to the conference theme are discussed and responded to.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPOSAL AND ABSTRACT PREPARATION
Proposals and abstracts must be relevant to teacher education in the early childhood, primary and/or secondary education sectors and address the theme of the conference:

Oral Presentations (of all types)
Abstracts should be a maximum 500 words in length and should include:
The type of oral presentation (single paper, self-organised symposium, round-table);
The full names, positions and institutions of all authors, indicating who will be presenting;
A description of the research, noting whether it is in progress or completed (including theoretical framework and/or method, and relevance to conference theme); and,
Findings and conclusions (including implications for teacher education today and in the future).
Poster Presentations
Poster proposals should be between 300-500 words and should include:
The type of poster session (individual or chaired poster symposium);
The full names, positions and institutions of all authors, indicating who will be presenting; plus, in the case of the chaired poster symposium, the name of the self-organised session Chair;
A description of the research, noting whether it is in progress or completed (including theoretical framework and/or method, and relevance to conference theme); and,
Findings and conclusions (including implications for teacher education today and in the future).
Abstracts must be submitted in Word or PDF format.
Abstracts will be blind peer reviewed.
Applicants will be notified that their proposal is either accepted or declined by 11 March 2016.
